Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful!! I'll Buy MORE!! After considerable research - and a few years of hemming and hawing over spending the money - I FINALLY purchased my Engel refrigerator freezer. I have had it in constant operation for over a month. It arrived within a few days of purchase; very well packaged, the unit was in perfect condition when I unpacked it and there was no assembly required which I greatly appreciated!! The optional handles were easily attached with a Phillips screw driver. I find it amusing that some reviews say that it's heavy or that it’s big when the dimensions and weight are exactly as advertised :-) I installed the cooler in the back of my Toyota Land Cruiser and hardwired the power supply. Note that the white power cord is the positive side which might not match the black/white positive/negative wires of your vehicle. If you connect the positive white wire to the ground side in your vehicle the cooler will not work - and you'll likely blow a fuze. Once you get it wired correctly (and replace the blown fuze) it works like a champ! It comes with a 110 cord and the 12v cord. But it does NOT come with a 12v cigarette lighter plug in - so you have to buy one or hard wire to your vehicle. I have a 2 year old Interstate Mega Tron II battery ( I think 24) in my vehicle and my only concern was whether or not the power draw would drain my battery overnight. It does not. I have left the cooler running for three days without running my vehicle with no problem starting my vehicle. I had plans to put in an additional battery in my Land Cruiser supported by solar panels but I'm not sure that I need to go to those great lengths. The cooler itself works exactly as advertised! It will freeze or keep things at whatever temperature you want based on the setting. I am completely 100% satisfied with my purchase. I am considering buying more units for my other vehicles, RV, and cabin. My use for the refrigerator freezer is mostly a matter of convenience. I usually have to do my shopping in little breaks during the day when I don't have time to get home to put things in the refrigerator. Having the refrigerator freezer in my vehicle at all times means I can store three to 4 bags of groceries in the cooler and not have to worry about any spoilage before I make it home. I travel a lot for my work and for pleasure and have dietary restrictions that most restaurants find difficult to accommodate. Being able to travel with my own food without worrying about ice or melting or food spoilage is a great relief for me and certainly saves money by not eating in restaurants. Over the month that I've had the cooler I've had condensation buildup in the cooler of about three cups of water. I'm sure the amount would vary based on how many times I open the cooler and the relative humidity. And of course if I had it set to freeze then the condensation would be ice and I would have to defrost it. This is a normal part of the operation; something you need to keep in mind that you do need to empty the cooler out, drain it, and clean it every few weeks of use. This is easy because of the two baskets in the cooler. Lift them out, scoop out the water, wipe it down, replace baskets and you're all set. The baskets are handy for keeping food organized. I love this refrigerator freezer!!! My only regret is that I didn't buy it years ago!! I'm completely thrilled with my purchase. It has the low energy draw that it advertises, you can set the temperature to freezing or cool - there are five settings - does it's job better than I expected and I will be considering the purchase of other refrigerator freezers from Engel for my other vehicles. I'm really glad I got the biggest one - if you compare the dimensions and the weight of all the units you really do get a lot more storage for you buck the bigger you go - have you ever said - "gee, my cooler is too big?" NO! get the big one!! When cycling on it makes a humming sound that I find reassuring that all is well - but my girlfriend finds the sound irritating when we sleep in the vehicle. No problem - I just turn it off on those occasions. The food has always stayed cold overnight, and I turn it on in the morning when we get up and hit the road. Have I mentioned that I love this thing? :)
