Portable top-opening 12/24V DC - 110V/120V AC fridge-freezer

A breath of salt air might be bracing to you first thing in the morning, but it can be tough on steel. That's why we offer the Engel MR040. It offers the same performance as our MT35 and MT45, but with a durable, corrosion-resistant ABS case - and more suited for Marine applications.

All Engel fridge/freezers feature the Engel Swing Motor Compressor. Highly efficient, it typically draws around 1 to 2 Amps per hour (check the specs below), about 40% less than a traditional compressor.

Engel fridge/freezers run on battery power (12V/24V DC) or 110V/120V AC, so whether you're on the road, on the water or safe at home, you can use your Engel to make life a little easier.

Features For MR040F-U1:

  • AC/DC Compatible
  • Variable Temperature Control

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Solar Power Camping I bought my cooler in Sept of 2015. I have a teardrop camper that has a 3-way power refrigerator in it (110V, 12V, Propane) but is very inefficient. The Engel compressor does not demand a huge power draw at start-up. Engel fridge/freezers typically draw between 0.5 Amps and 3.6 Amps per hour and when maintaining temperature, the nominal draw is under 1 Amp per hour. My solar power panels produce 9 amps/hour. When traveling, I keep my Engel in the back of my 2012 Outback plugged into the 12v power, plus can plug it into 110v at a campground. I now have the flexibility to use my Engel as a freezer and the camper fridge as a normal fridge. Great product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very efficient. I bought the fridge for my horse trailer so I always have cold water and beer after riding. It replaced a thermal cooled cooler which used more power as it was on 24/7 and did not keep up when it was hot. I have it hooked up to 2 90 amp batterys (one would be enough but i have other things running as well) and a solar panel. Never have to plug into AC. They only downsides are that it does not have a low voltage shut off or thermostatic control. I did put a low voltage control for all my battery usage. The other regret is that i wish I would have purchased a larger unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from low amp use I have owned my unit for more than five years. Used it in my boat, less than 3 amps when it ran and it did not run very often during the day in Florida. I now take it with my motorhome and use it as an extra freezer, keeps ice cream very hard. This is the best portable unit I have ever had, you will not be disappointed to own such a practical good working refer/freezer. Thanks for such good engineering, met you at a boat show once, everything you said is true.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Freezer/Fridge We have lived on our sailboat for a year with just a fridge. We bought the Engel Fridge/Freezer and now can have ice cream! Lots of room to store other food too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Energy Sipper I started a teardrop trailer style build on my Land Rover Freelander. I needed a refrigerator/cooler to complete the group of appliances installed (on demand hot water heater, stove, water tank with on demand pump, etc...). Initially I opted for a thermal electric style cooler because of their technology and light weight. I have a 100 watt solar panel mounted to the roof feeding a DC distribution center that is entirely independent from the vehicle's. The PV panel keeps an AGM battery charged. I found that the thermal electric cooler would consume all the charge in the battery over night and the cooler would lose its already meager temperature. After conducting modest research, I ultimately found that a refrigerator, more specifically, an off road refrigerator was needed. A refrigerator with a rotating compressor used too much electricity so I discovered that Engel has a very efficient compressor using electro magnetic coils to drive the compressing cylinder. Problem solved. Although a bit heavy, the 40L model fit the bill and sips electricity. My singlenAGM battery starts the night with 13.4 VDC and starts the day with around 12.5 VDC and the contents of the refrigerator maintain a frigid 36 degrees (setting 2.3). I am very pleased with this system of refrigeration and I recommend the costly purchase to anyone serious about off grid refrigeration needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low Amp great! Performs excellent as a fridge or freezer and runs quietly. Perfect for solar power off the grid systems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like it. Mounted this to the base in my pop up truck camper. It is an excellent product and fits food for two for a few days. It cools right down but you must be careful not to bump the thermostat knob or else you freeze your lettuce. This should really have some sort of lock on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Rig Fridge I am using this fridge in a big rig truck and after a month or so now the vibration of the truck has not effected it and it works way better than an electric cooler I can leave the truck turned off for 20-30 hours and not kill the batteries on the truck best choice yet
